TORC PHASE CHANGE MATERIAL “PCM” STORAGE MEDIUM = Earth Abundant Low Cost Organic Salts & Ionic Liquids

Latent heat storage (LHS) is one of the most promising thermal storage methods in which the heat stored and released involves a phase transition. The materials used to store energy as latent heat are called phase change materials (PCMs). We are seeing a repeatable - in theory limitless Fusion Process as opposed to the traditional destructive Fission Process of burning to release energy as heat. These are the same outcomes that drive the quest for Cold Fusion.

Latent Heat, as opposed to conventional /traditional fissile (burning) ‘sensible” heat, offers unparalleled energy density (comparable to Li-Ion) in theory limitless recycling from Charge to Discharge and an extremely stable energy supply (as opposed to the sharp drop out of conventional heat).

This overall process mirrors the most successful Clean LDES system of Pumped Hydro Storage “PHS” EXCEPT we are deployable.

Many claim this, few are this in reality.

  • Only Low Temp Latent Heat System, we are aware of in the World, leveraging the phenomenon of Phase Change

  • Cheap earth abundant material less than $10 per kWh (lithium is $200 per kWh)

  • High Energy density at only 130°C (others 700°C- 1400°C) stores 75kWh per cubic meter

  • High IP Knowledge 7yrs R&D /Partnership with Monash University and RMIT. Access to Extensive Patent Library

  • Only program globally looking at the low temp Latent Heat PCM range.

  • High stretch range at start of theoretical limits

Storage Medium Advanced Material Science

Comparison chart showing features of TORC patented composite PCM and lithium & flow batteries. The chart highlights cost, efficiency, sustainability, and lifespan differences.

Like PHS we apply our own manufactured Pumps & Turbines but for Deploy-Ability, we use as our cheap PCM instead of water & gravity for our storage medium.

This allows us near unlimited and sustainable scale up for power duration, as achieved by a wood pile or coal pile or with PHS by just adding more water, except we never need to fill up our PCM Storage Medium and its Green.

High Energy Density at Low Temp >100kWh per mᶟ on only 130°C (other Latent Heat Thermals >500°C-1300°C) AND, at the beginning of theoretical maximum, Li-Ion near its End

TORC PCM offers several advantages, the most remarkable feature is its high energy storage capacity in comparison to the conventional thermal storage materials, resulting in reduction of the thermal storage unit size.

Another major advantage of PCM is its isothermal phase change characteristic, the heat is charged and discharged at a nearly constant temperature (phase change temperature) corresponding to the phase transition.

These excellent isothermal properties result in little loss in energy in transfer (unlike burning firewood loses >60% of its energy to waste heat) for a constant drive of the turbine generator.

To not use PCM as your 21st Century Storage Medium is like using aluminium instead of carbon fibre for your stealth fighter jet.
